  • Basic course details are now posted for US Champs Day 1.

  • Craig Murray has generously offered to set a FREE White course on each of the Laramie Daze days (Monday through Friday). We'll have that option added to our registration system in the next week or so. But, if you're too excited to wait for that, just send me an email.

  • We're still recruiting for all volunteer roles for Saturday and Sunday (the US Champs days), especially START CREW. Please indicate your willingness to help when you register. Or, if you've already registered, send an email to our Meet Director, Donna Fluegel.

Thanks. Any chance that consideration will be given to using Sport ident at the US Champs?

"I'm just the webmaster" (and the registrar).

But, I'll try to recap the key points of what the event organizers have discussed on this topic, because I'm sure you're not the only one who has that question:

  • RMOC does not currently have the in-house expertise or experience to pull off a meet with e-punching, and we don't particularly want our first attempt to be a high-profile event like the US Championships. (To date, RMOC's only experience administering an e-punch system was at the 2007 Colorado Five-Day meet, where Valerie Meyer from QOC largely ran the entire e-punch show, with a few RMOC apprentices assisting her.) We won't be able to rely on Valerie's expertise for the 2008 US Champs, because she won't be attending (she's saving up vacation time for the 2009 Scottish Six Days, I think).

  • Our US Champs co-hosting club, LROC, consists basically of ONE member in the Laramie area (if not in all of Wyoming!). That solitary LROC member is the US Champs Mapper and Course Setter, and he is not inclined to have extra e-punch responsibilities in addition to mapping and course setting -- two very significant undertakings. He's not opposed to e-punching at the event, he just doesn't want any extra e-punch tasks to distract him from his two key areas of focus before and during the US Champs.

As a competitor, I *love* e-punching. But, as an organizer, it does add some extra logistical complication and extra time for programming the units, putting out the units, waking up the units, etc.

I'm relaying other people's viewpoints here, so I hope I've captured everything accurately.

For anyone who will be driving to Laramie for this meet, there's a cool driving tour described in the July / August 2008 issue of AAA's "EnCompass" magazine:
