Discussion: On fish and chips

Gollum to Sam, from The Two Towers, in Ithilien. You're quoting the movie line, which is taken almost verbatim from The Two Towers Book IV, Chapter IV: Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit. The book line is:

"Spoiling nice fish, scorching it. Give me fish now, and keep nassty chips!"

I believe the Gollum line follows Sam saying "even you couldn't say no to that" after describing fish and chips, and is preceded by the discussion of potatoes. Shortly after, the oliphaunts and the Haradrim are ambushed by Faramir and his rangers.

Gollum really said me? I thought it was us. And you either have a photographic memory, are a real Tolkien geek, or looked that up. But you can have a cookie anyway.

Ian is certainly a Tolkien geek, but he definitely skipped over the line where Gollum asks for tartar sauce with his chips. Way more important than whatever happened to some harem of oliphaunts.
