Was this the 26th annual Blue Hills Traverse?
Which makes it about twice as old as JF... :)
For
billygoat.org, I started on a historic record of the Traverse. It is well documented to have begun in 1973. I have doubts that it was perfectly
annual. Based on a set of old NEOC Times, that had some gaps,
http://www.billygoat.org/statistics/traversecourse... lists all the information available to me. I didn't find any mention in the available newsletters of a traverse in 1980 or 1983. If I recall correctly, in one of those two years there was just 1 newsletter missing. From the lack of a Traverse on the schedule it would seem that there was no Traverse that year, and that our numbering is off.
Having been responsible for the "33" on this year's shirt, and having been told that in fact last year's shirt said 33 too, I'd love to know what this year's shirt *should* have read. I was thinking we could publish an erratum on next year's shirt. In fine print: "Because of an editing error, ..."
Well you notice in 92 I had a re creation of the first.Apparently I thought the first was in 72, but now reading the official history of NEOC compiled in 82, it was 11/18/73.
So this is the 33 rd year, last year was wrong, and who knows how many other shirts!. I was not aound in 80, but by 83 I likely would have tried the traverse, having 1 billygoat (82) under my knickers. The first one I remember though may have been 84, starting on the B/W map of BH West at the parking lot north of the Trailside Museum.
Coach wears knickers? This is somewhat of a shock, although I guess it shouldn't be, given Coach's radical ideas on such subjects as proper compass lanyard knotting, color of O' shoe laces, and basic general approaches to the various of the stinging winged insects of North America. I guess we've all heard about NFL linebackers and such wearing pantyhose, but still... Coach, do you have any other garment secrets you would like to share with everyone here, in the interests of improving the overall standard of elite O' in North America?
I assume Swampfox goes commando.
I don't think i could fit a goat under my knickers.
It's the old thing of how sometimes (wearing) less is more!
Oh boy. I only wanted to know how old the Traverse is.
OK, so they weren't knickers. I actually wore bell bottom jeans on my first Billygoat.
Yeah! I think I did three Billygoats in jeans (though I was overtime at two of them).
