Updated rankings have been posted.

Note - there were only two rankable runners (M/F-10 and M/F-12 classes) on White for the Tucson events, one below the minimum for the course to be ranked.

Thank you Valerie for including the interscholastic for the JWOC rankings. Really nice job, sure makes my JWOC committee's job easier.

I'm just a bit confused. Does the interscholastics not count for the regular F-20 rankings then? but for the JWOC rankings? as the two are different. I'm obviously not in the running for JWOC this year but still confused lol.

newbie question: what does the "TIME" column mean in the rankings?
Feb 28, 2008 1:34 AM #
Sandy:
Alison - The Varsity class at the Interscholastics counts as a Brown course in the regular USOF rankings. If you are 18 or under you were ranked in F-18 and if you are 19 or older you were ranked in F-Brown. (Similarly, the Varsity males were ranked on Green in either M-18 or M-Green.) These results are included in the posted rankings. A separate set of rankings for M-20 and F-20 were done for JWOC selection only counting the Varsity female class as F-20 even though it wasn't the green course and counting the Varsity male class as M-20.

Ah ok thanks Sandy!

Time: there is a "winning" time for each course:
Brown 45
Green 50
Red 60
Blue 75
Orange 50
White 25
Yellow 35
A 100 point runner would have this "time", and the time goes up or down for each person based on their ranking score.

Thank you Valerie, the mysterious ranking system is becoming much clearer. BTW I can now access the rankings pages.

You can read some more information on rankings in the USOF rules.

Newbie question: If this years Interscholastics counts on the M-20 (JWOC) then why isn't last years, as it is counted on the Green rankings.

vmeyer:
I believe there are two reasons last year's IS isn't counted in this year's M-20 (JWOC) rankings: It wasn't declared before the event that it was gong to be, and it will be dropping off before the final JWOC rankings anyway.

Each of the four events will be in the USOF rankings. For the Sprint, you are ranked in the Class which you register for, even if several courses are grouped together on one course. Example: Red and Blue classes are running the same Sprint course. You usually run as M45+, but you registered for the sprint events as M-21+. You will be ranked as M-21+.

As always, you can request that an event not be included in the USOF rankings, if the request is made before you start. This does not affect how you are scored at the meet. Requests must be made in writing to either Valerie Meyer or Sandy Fillebrown.

Relay Champs:
Anyone successfully completing a US Champs Relay leg is eligible for a credit day. Credit days are only considered and used for the official end of year USOF rankings, and they are only applied if you do not have the minimum 4 event days on a course at the end of the year.

Junior Junior Relay participants are not eligible for a credit day.

But if we allow all 4 events of the Pig to stand, do I take it that we will then be eligible for USOF year-end ranking on the basis of this one weekend alone?

Yes.

I'm going to let you, Bob and Rich fight it out for M65+ honors; I'm going on a sentimental journey back to Green for the weekend...to try to recall those sunny days of my youth (i.e. <65).

Is there information anywhere about the Junior Junior Relay? I don't see anything on the web site.

The Jr Jr Relay is essentially the same as last year (as best as I recall) - 2 x White course, starting 10 minutes after the mass start of the main relay (that one minor detail is actually on the web site, but we'll have to add some additional info). Oh, the relay cost is "free" for junior juniors.

It seems odd that the much shorter sprint championship would have double the impact in the rankings of the ultra long championship. Moreover, the sprints were sanctioned as a "1 day A meet".

I'm not going, don't look at the rankings all that much, and am not trying to cause trouble. Just waxing philosophically for lack of anything better to do right now :)
