I have the problem, but can offer no solutions... (other than getting out of the pool.) I get cramps under the arches which is pretty impossible to stretch out whilst maintaining a freestyle kick. At least it's different to the toe cramps I used to get when I could only swim breaststroke

better than a double hammy cramp when doing breaststroke. thats a short-cut to drowning!

Ouch. I still clearly remember the one and only double-hammy cramp I got in a 6hr metro-rogaine in 1992when we swam across the Swan River at the 5hr mark... not good floating in the river in the middle of a yacht race sculling frantically with the arms just trying not to drown. Couldn't walk normally for days!

Blair, I'd suggest cutting down on the amount of butterfly you do, changing from free to fly always seems to bring it on... :-)

I don't think that theory works for me because I haven't been doing butterfly. Sort of reassuring to know it's not just me.

at the risk of offending all and sundry foot cramps, or wankers cramp as TQ called them, were a regular in the water running days of the Crockatoos of myself, tomQ, JLA & Hoggster a few years back. We called ourselves the Crockatoos as we were all injured Cockatoos who could only water run. Why TQ called foot cramps wankers cramp escapes me right now but it did cause much mirth and laughter at the time. We did seem to get them fairly regularly though.
