the website for the event is here
http://stars.kw.net/events/20080511.html and the online payment should be available later (probably today).
now the online payments its working too.
since we'll have some O-events in southern Ontario in the month of march, most of them will be available for training in days after the event. also a local B-meet will be available on saturday , march 29. send me an email if interested about the training camp too.
from an older thread ( those freebees still count, but you have to register- if you have them )
Some free *** stuff :
***NA champions (from this century) -elite category (M or F) will have FREE race entry fee and no fee for the training camp !!
***Any Competitors having a minimum of 4000 WRE points -at the time of event -will have free entry as well.
***Canadian and US national team members who participated at WOC or JWOC from 2005 till today will pay no fee for the training camp (mentioned above )!
***any result in top 10 at WOC (ever ) free entry.
Stars Spring WRE got postponed today ( with over 50 cm of snow on the ground 3 weeks before the race, we considered would'nt be fair. to be rescheduled ( probably may 11 or november 8)
Is the B meet still on? On the website it only says that details will be available in early march.
B meet will be 'probably ON" for may 10- if we decide for may 11 (probably this weekend will finalize the date ). for march 30 there will the thomass eliminator in the region. also
New date for Stars Spring WRE.. may 11 . Hope you'll be able to make it on this new date.
I just saw that OOC has scheduled a B Meet on the same day?!? Excuse me, but WTF?
http://www.ottawaoc.ca/local_events.shtml
It is more than five hours of driving from Ottawa to the WRE - a long way for OOC members who don't care about WRE points to be forced to travel if they want to orienteer that day. There's also people who aren't orienteers yet to consider - OOC isn't going to recruit many people locally to orienteering if they don't hold local events while they can during the spring season.
OK, well, I guess canadian people are much more accustomed to the short spring season abd the long distance than I am, so I was surprised by this apparent competition in the same province.
In their upcoming calendar the Ramblers OC in Montreal also has a meeting scheduled on May the 11th. So more competition...
Wasn't the WRE originally scheduled for a different date? Clubs can't be expected to change their schedule to accommodate a moving target, even if their event wasn't posted before the WRE move.
hey eddie nice to hear from you. i really hope you do not have this "conflict of interest".. well we are glad that event got postponed ( maybe after this weekend rainy weather we'll have no snow there. it was a long winter, lots of snow. also we did not expect to have a free O-day in the calendar ( just like Jon T. mentioned )
please remember that april 21 , is the last day for early bird fee. if you see me at US relay event this week, you can register and pay me "on the spot" . we'll take U$ at par.
The website link at the top of this page appears to be wrong... When the event date was changed, STARS also changed the website address:
http://stars.kw.net/events/20080511.html.
For those coming from the USA Midwest (Cincinnati, Chicago, etc), the Southern Michigan O' Club (SMOC) has a
score-O on Saturday, May 10
thanks Mike. I "adjust" even the earlier link.
There is a big chance it will be another meet (or an organized training - at least) added on the saturday before. more details soon
thanks to our meet director we can offer 2 double beds free accomodation at her place to (up to ) 4 eligible ranked ladies.
we can chat more this weekend with folks interested- at the Rochester meet
early bird price registration will go up soon as well, for the Stars WRE. take advantage and hope to see you there
still looking for couple of more rankable ladies for the WRE .again free accomodation and free entry for top 4 rankable ladies. we really want to have all ladies scoring points on Mother's day.
there will be either a training session ( or if it is enough interest a B meet ), that saturday afternoon , where people can get a hand on a map , some nearby terrain ( within 15 minutes driving time from WRE site )
we are awaiting for the 4th ranked lady to register/express interest in let the ball rolling for WRE points ( 2 already registered, 3rd flight searching ).. the offer with free racing and free accomodation is still on the table . there are only 2-3 other ranked Canadians ( thousands of miles away ) but 3-4 Americans just hundreds of miles away.
???
courses length for WRE . men ( aprox 6.5-6.8 km), women (aprox 4.6-5.0 km ).final touching happening now. directions are also up on the website.
Nick, it looks to me like your winning times will be a bit longer than the standard, so if that is true you should probably announce it...
for the mens course I expect a winning time around 40-42 min ( looking thru registration so far ), and that is for people ranked as high as around 200 on WRE ranking list. so probably that course is about (maybe ) 10 % longer than the standard 35 min ( or so... is listed almost always the WOC final )
Yes, this is exactly what my thinking was, too... any idea of the women's winning time?
I must do a test run for women's course ( at a guesstimated speed, but it could be around 32 min - give or take 2)
directions for saturday training are here
http://stars.kw.net/training/2008spring.html it will be a re-run of Thomass Stars event that we had early march ,.even if you arrive at 3 pm or so you'll still be able to go out.
final week for entering the WRE.. still hoping to have another ranked lady (in addition to those already registered - and they can have free accomodation and free entry ). all others are welcome too..the weather looks good, forest is nice, and for courses ..check Hammer's comments. saturday training is on the afternoon to accomodate long distance travellers.
in a last attempt to attract ranked women .... beside free race and free accomodation , what about a 100 $ to help with travel ??? ( could be even U$ !! ) .. despite being a small event , we hope that you'll enjoy it the most, and have the event counted on the women side (of accumulating points ) too.. email me, if need further details.
maps are printed, we also left 2 spots (each class) for vakant on the start list ( first come first served). we are still welcoming everyone.
nice weather too.
how many airmiles a ranked lady will need to fly to buffalo/toronto ?/ like 600 ? might have some
Does anyone know if there are any inexpensive tent campsites anywhere near the STARS event site?
Any idea on when the start times will be posted? Just would like to know what time I need to be getting up to eat my pre-race breakfast.... Thanks!
sorry to be late answering..
start times were up friday evening (on stars page)..Wil you start quite early ( min10, Kata 41)
thanks to all that come out today at the WRE event..Hopefully was cahllenging enough. for those ( and others that did not participate ) here is a link to a small video produced by the reporter from The Record (local newspaper )
