Yes, it's been a challenging year. I found summer in Boston particularly difficult - just couldn't bring myself to want to push in the heat and humidity, and my fitness suffered through July and August. If at all possible, we won't be here for another entire summer again. Maybe if I had a goal race, I would have been motivated to get up at 4AM to catch the coolest part of the day, but without that...not so much. Good for you for finding something to stay positive and focused.

Here's to something - just about anything! - getting on the calendar and sticking in 2021!

Goals are great. Good for you for meeting yours, despite the 6 weeks off. And I don’t think it’s meaningless to hit a specific number on a specific date, as long as it motivates you. And I’m all for silly workouts like the 2min 58 secs I did on Dec 31 :)

You have zeroed in on the important part: a source of motivation.

Tory, these days I admire anyone who has to deal with heat and humidity. The thought of being back in the south, for instance, and trying to train under those oppressive summer conditions....ugh. Even though the reality was when I was in the DC area right after graduation (Belvoir) and again for Advanced course, well, you just dealt with the conditions, right? It's not as if there was some other option.

But I'm glad I don't have to out here. So what if it's a tiny bit windy and occasionally cool. I'll take that any day over the heat and humidity.

The other thing I don't miss are the FDFs. Funny thing about that is I don't ever remember having problems with FDFs at West Point, and yet they had to have been around, you'd think.

I don't remember FDFs very much when I was growing up. Maybe very occasionally. But then, we didn't really have ticks, either.
