Hey will, I saw you did the squak_2020_08_15 course in UsynligO. Just curious if you built it also if you enjoyed it. Considering giving that one a go.

Hey Mack! Good to hear from you, hope things are going well. I did design that one, it was fun but I'll just warn you it ended up being more punishing than I meant it to be. Slow going, steep and thick in a lot of places. It took me >90 minutes for 5.7km (without making a lot of mistakes) and I was pretty savaged by the end.

Yeah. I was concerned you were going to say that. I may still consider it but might save it for warmer weather. Have you done any others on Usynlig you’d recommend?

If you're looking for something on the rugged side, I see Peteris put a couple Tiger Mountain courses up, I'll probably do those at some point. Similar terrain as Squak obviously but shorter courses with a big net downhill, so a bit less tough.

If you're willing to go further I'd recommend any of the First Creek courses near Cle Elum. Stampede Pass, Elk Heights, and Tamarack Springs are also good, but may be under snow by now.

Thanks for the info. I think you’re right on the snow. I’ll probably try out one of the tiger routes in the next few weeks.
I’m interested in trying out making a route on my own. I just need to dedicate some time to sitting down and learning how to do it. I also only found out about usynlig recently. Up till now I’ve been running old winter league courses.
Can’t wait to get back to orienteering after COVID.

I admire your motivation, guys.

I haven't been outside with a map since Winter League Champs, and have sort of been increasingly ok with it.

I was kinda excited to be making a map (pre-fieldwork drafting), but the fires in September kinda nixed the fun fieldwork part.

Yeah man me too, it's been rough. Purple Pen is easy to use to draw up a course, I haven't gotten around to looking into uploading to UsynligO yet though. If you want company whenever you get out to Tiger shoot me a text, 206-909-8235.

Yes, that is better.
