Sounds like you've found a place now. When you mentioned you were having difficulty finding something I asked a friend who owns several duplex apartments and also happens to be an orienteer if she had anything available. At that point the answer was no, but this morning she just emailed me back to say one of her tenants just notified her they would be leaving "in the near future."

So if you're not already locked in and want to compare this as an alternative, her webpage is here: http://stage.ithacaartisan.com/apartments-for-rent...

The opening is in 1682. You should be able to find her contact info from her website.

Thanks for asking around! We already signed the lease and paid a deposit, so we're set for now, but thanks!

I emailed the flute section leader for the Ithaca Concert Band to see about playing with you guys once rehearsals start back up, but haven't heard back. Do you know if there's a better person to email? Or should I just ping him again at some point?

Thanks again!

If you aren't getting a response from Barry then you could try Phil Krasicky, pdk4@cornell.edu. He's in that section and would know how to contact Barry. Barry is retired and might not be the most diligent about checking his email.

At this point I really don't know what to expect in terms of a resumption of rehearsals. There was a period of a few weeks where we were invited to do some outdoor rehearsals while it was still warm and light enough in the early evening. But I don't know how we're going to be able to put together something indoors anytime soon unless we can get a really large space and spread people out. I can think of a few large buildings at Cornell that might be large enough to pull it off. But an outside organization has zero chance of being allowed on campus during the current access restrictions. I'm not on the band board so I don't know what all is being discussed, but my best guess is unless someone comes up with something really creative there probably won't be any in-person rehearsals again until after winter and it's warm enough to do them outside again.

Thanks! It sounds like there isn't any rush, but it would be great to be on the band's radar once rehearsals start back up in any meaningful way. If I haven't heard back from Barry in another week or so, I'll try emailing Phil as well. Perhaps by the time it is warm enough for outdoor rehearsals, there will be a vaccine and life can start easing back into something approaching normal. In the mean time, I'll continue my COVID-safe plan of recording all 4 parts in flute quartets so that I can pretend I'm playing in some sort of group :-).

Hah. I had a friend that used to do that with tuba quartets. Come to think of it, he's the father of the woman who owns the apartments mentioned above.
