I did consider that, yeah. I settled on the stationary bike for three reasons:
1) I wanted a machine that my partner could also use, and my bike is too big for her
2) I wanted to be able to use my bike outdoors, weather permitting, without repeated disassembly.
3) I wanted to avoid wear and tear on my bicycle from a winter of indoor training.
I may have overestimated the cost of (3). I settled on
this guy, and my impressions are favorable and consistent with what I read before making the purchase. It's certainly not quite the same as riding a road bike, but I think it will be a useful tool for winter training. And, if I find that I don't use it enough, I am sure there is sufficient demand that I could sell it to someone in the Toronto area.
