We are considering applying to teach a pre-conference workshop at the national Experiential Education workshop in November. We presented a piece of our Navigation Games elementary school curriculum at the northeast regional conference in February, and it was well received. We have until April 15th to submit our application.
I'm considering having the workshop be centered around doing some orienteering, creating learning goals, developing lesson plans that follow the experiential education paradigm, and then testing those plans. A main theme would be practicing to turn 'regular' lessons into 'experiential' lessons, with a set of go-to tactics that are easy to apply.
Are there maps of parks in Pittsburgh? Any local orienteers interested in participating, or talking to me about the idea before I submit the application?
Frick Park is within Pittsburgh city limits. Jim Wolfe might be able to help you.
