Yesterday, July 4th, I heard "orienteering" mentioned twice! (probably the same story repeated)
This was apparently thanks to a BBC produced program, doing a story on Emmanuel Macron's proposal for compulsory national service for all French 16 year olds. Among the listed activities were map reading and orienteering.
No mention of the French star, but I'm guessing Tero's involved.

I heard that as well. (And someone in the piece described it as "hypocritical indoctrination.)

Can you remember the name so I can look it up on the NPR One app?

Checking my local station's schedule, I think it was on two different programs, BBC Newshour and BBC World Service, if that helps.

Thanks. Will search with that. I might be on the other side of the world, but I enjoy that NPR One app when driving.

Article here, but sadly:

“... a day of classes in orienteering, map-reading and strategy, taught by members of the armed forces.”
