I didn't take any splits. But, I have a few comments.

From 3 to 4, I planned to contour and come out just below the marker (the control at 4 is almost two lines above 3). I either climbed too much or the map is not quite right. I ended up a line above 4.

When I looked at 10-11, I saw the long ride/ditch/trail. The course designer must not have noticed the ride/ditch/trail. It is hard to imagine planning to put a blue course control on a feature that is a kilometer long (from east of control 12 all the way to the Grindstone Gap Campsite).

It's so nice to be able to see the maps (thanks, Kenny).

It looks to me from Kenny's splits that he lost a lot more than 1 minute on 10-11. The leg should have been run at about 6 min/k, or about 7 minutes. I'd guess he lost much more than a minute wandering at the end... (but then I wasn't there...)

yeah its possible. hard to say how much time lost was looking around 100m early for the control (seemed like less than 30 sec) and how much was due to a slower pace in the last 300m or so. when I came to/over the top of the hill I couldn't see any of the features I should have (rootstocks, manmade stuff or the "highway"), so I backed off the pace a bit. I took the whole thing relatively cautiously though since I wasn't sure how distinct these features at the end would be. I would definatly guess slower than 6/k.

One of the things that might not be obvious from the maps is that you could run full speed all the way in to most of the controls. The terrain was quite open and visibility was good. You didn't really need to find a good attack point and then slow down and be careful the last bit in to the circle.
