They were on foot?

Heartbreaking.

I’ve been spooked about cars actually stopping since about 8 months pregnant, when a car at the intersection closest to our house failed to stop at the stop sign and only stopped when I screamed and the bus at the intersection honked. I like to see them slowing down before I cross. But of course that slows down everything.

I don't trust drivers when I'm on foot, and am skittish when they stop at a crosswalk and wave at me to proceed. I'd rather wait unil the coast is clear.

This is a sad, sad story.

Geez, that is awful. I usually wait until I've made eye contact, and I try to always be lit as a pedestrian. When running on country roads, I jump into the snowbank for oncoming cars, because I don't trust that they'll see me. I really hate having to change my "normal" behavior because if I don't, I think I'll get badly hurt or dead.

When I'm driving, it's shocking the number of black-clad pedestrians out there with no reflective qualities. They're legit hard to see.

Almost lost Rhonda a few years ago in Florida when she confidently walked out into a crosswalk. Just barely grabbed her before a guy came zipping through at about 45 mph.

Alex - ditto for black clad cyclists in NYC, especially in the rain.

This was unfortunately a well lit crosswalk right outside an elementary school. Police seem to have made no progress on finding the driver.

Yup Alex - I won't even cycle across a car without making eye contact, even when I'm the one on the main road with right of way. And would always jump into the snow bank. Never trust any car to stop at a crosswalk round here - always wait for them to stop and look at you. Didn't have to behave like that at home or in New Haven!

Isn't New Haven where you got hit? and Clare?
