BrianJohnston:
Driving from Manitoba south to Tennessee in March and if it works out I’d welcome the opportunity to stretch my legs on an Orienteering course.

Route overview
MN Twin Cites
WI Madison
IL Rockford south to Normal
IN Indianapolis
KY Louisville and Lexington
TN Knoxville and Lenior City
I guess SW or W NC and NE GA might be within reach as well.

I’m happy with training events, permanent courses, Rogaining, etc. suggestions. Even just “check this Orienteering site for updates” suggestions.

Thanks

Mr Wonderful:
Add 3.5 hours for a six hour rogaine on March 16th? A substantial section of the map for that was used for the L in the recent SML champs. You'd also pass near three permanent courses in MI doing that. That also sets you up to go through OCIN country, which has approximately a thousand maps. OLOU has permanent courses as well - the ones I tried tended to be easier, but you've got the map so you can improvise.

March 22 + Lexington would put you 90 minutes from the Masters Champs at Carter Caves for the 2019 Flying Pig. I imagine they streamer, not sure how nicely you have to ask to preview if it doesn't hit your window.

As long as clubs add events on Attackpoint, they will show up on this listing which includes a map showing relative locations:

Keep your eye on the Orienteering Cincinnati Schedule Page:
https://www.ocin.org/events.php

March 22-24 will be the annual Flying Pig and 2018 Orienteering USA Masters Nationals. Friday will be at Camp McKee, at Mt Sterling, KY east of Lexington. Saturday and Sunday will be at the unique Carter Caves State Park, a little over an hour east of Lexington off I-64. Carter Caves features karst terrain with several caves and several natural arches. (We can use pre-runners if the meet itself doesn't fit your schedule)

There are also events near Cincinnati on March 1 (evening), 2, and 9.
The weekend of March 16-17 has a Saturday meet near Louisville, KY, and Sunday near Dayton, Ohio.
Indianapolis usually does the "Conquer the Crossroads" rogaine sometime in March, usually somewhere between Indianapolis and Louisville. I haven't seen any info on 2019 yet.

There are also several permanent courses in the Greater Cincinnati area, and the Kentucky Orienteering Trail features maps in several Kentucky State Parks including Taylorsville (just east of Louisville) and Big Bone Lick (just south of Cincinnati)

O Joy:
The tentative date for the 2019 Conquer the Crossroads Rogaine (6 hr and 12 hr) is April 6 in Owen Putnam State Forest west of Indianapolis. We'll have more information and registration in the new year.

There are also permanent courses in Morgan Monroe State Forest north of Bloomington, IN and at Hoosier State Forest near Story, IN, both of these are south o Indianapolis.

Thank you for all the ideas and suggestions.

Permanent courses in Morgan Monroe State Forest and Hoosier look like possibilities.

March 16/17 KY area might also be more possible than the Mar 16 Lost arrow Rogaine in MI.

I appreciate the AP event map suggestion.

Pre runners for the flying pig is intriguing.

Iriharding, unfortunately I can’t make the 30th, sad face. Close call as I could make the 31st!

I’ll look into MNOC permanent courses but definitely not as fun as the Lebanon Hills event.

As you cross from KY to TN, if you go on I-24, you pass near Clarksville/Ft. Campbell, a deprived, ridden with crime hellhole.

But the surrounding terrain is nice, water-errosion with elements of karst.
One place to run with a map would be Land between the Lakes.
They have decent quality maps with contours posted,

Orienteering Louisville is doing:

Our annual Scout-O on March 9th at Camp Crooked Creek (about 45 minutes south of Louisville) and is open to the public at 1:00 PM. Should have W, Y, O, B, G, and R.

Otter Creek on March 16th (about an 45 minutes SW of Louisville).

Has the permanent course at Morgan Monroe been updated? I did it several years ago and was bearing and pace counting.
