Back in April 2015 a whole bunch of folks made donations in support of the USA's junior program, an effort that became known as the marathon fundraiser. Here was the original post proposing the idea. Read the comments for a sense of how wonderfully it turned out. And here are the final numbers. As I said, lots of folks pitched in.

The funds were used over the past three years in support of our junior teams to JWOC and also to the North Americans. It made a difference, not only the funds but also the awareness of the support that existed for the junior program.

It is time for marathon fundraiser 2 -- MF2.

Details are here. I hope there will be lots of pledges -- everything helps, large and small. Pledges can be added to the comments for that post, or, if you wish to stay anonymous, e-mail them to me (pg@crocker.com).

Have a look. And let's see what we can do.

Time for an update --

Doing the math, which some devious minds among the donors has made more complicated than I had expected... :-)

If I make it to 5,000 miles, we're on track to raise about $4,500. Which is great, thanks to all who have signed up so far. But I'm sure we can do better.

1. Remember, everything helps, large or small.

2. And it's not too late to join in. Far from it, pledges are possible anytime from now until the end of December. Or even after that...

3. Feel free to be creative.

4. The bottom line is it all helps our junior program.

See the links in the message above.

Thanks,

Peter

Time for an update as we get close to the finish line --

1. There have been lots of creative pledges. As a result lots of motivation for me to keep cranking out the miles. I reached 5,000 on December 11 (in Mike's Maze!) and was thinking, great, I can take it easy for the rest of the year. But then Eric Smith offered up a generous pledge spurring me on to reach 5,280. And Valerie Meyer made her own generous pledge with more reasons to get out every day.

So I'm now at 5,252. :-)

Still 7 days to go.

2. As of yesterday we're on track to raise a little over $9,000. I realize that, as the mileage rises, there are some folks who may be looking at a pledge higher than they anticipated. If you need to back off some, that's fine.

On the other hand, there's certainly still time for adding your name to the list, in whatever way you wish.

3. And as of today, Xmas day, well, we have a match. Same deal as with MF1, dollar for dollar, so in fact we're at just over $18,000. It would be really nice if we could get that to 20K.

Obviously that would be great for the junior program. It also would mean that I (and all of us) wouldn't have to do MF3 for 2 or 3 more years. :-)

4. Details are here. Everything helps, large and small. Pledges can be added to the comments for that post, or, if you wish to stay anonymous, e-mail them to me (pg@crocker.com).

And remember, every dollar is matched.

Thank you.

The year is winding down, as is MF2. The last miles are done. The final numbers on the miles are here.

It will be a week or two before we get the final numbers on the dollars, but things are looking good.

Most of the pledges are in, thank you!! Any remaining ones need to be in this week to qualify for the dollar-for-dollar match. Details are here.

My pledge sums up to $65.00 = $50.00 for reaching the 5000 miles (something I never doubted would happen) + 3 World Cup/Tour de Ski victories for Stina Nilsson in the time span given at $5.00 each.

Great initiative by PG - Good luck to all US juniors!

Two months ago I proposed a challenge to myself as a way of raising some money for the junior program. A bunch of you responded, and responded very generously. The final number is in, and this is the important number, not the miles...

The amount raised was $22,752.96.

Thank you one and all. And the juniors thank you too.

And, in a personal sense, I feel very fortunate. Somehow I ended up outside on my bike on 43 of the 45 days in question, and enjoyed it every single day. That is quite something.

Amazing! Peter, you are so wonderful to have come up with this idea and then to have made it happen, with so many miles. (I'm sure the weather helped.) I'm not sure there's another person in the US O' community who could have done this. So happy to have you around.
Now come to a meet or two so we can all thank you in person.
