The wrist-based tech is only any good for long-term slow-change monitoring. The good news is that that 735 is compatible with any Garmin HR (ANT+) strap, if you have any old ones that are still fine. I just use the ones I had with my (very) old Forerunner 305.

wrist HR readings are rubbish - last week I did 5k @4.40 pace with AHR at 198 apparently...

Thanks Brad - thought my existing strap wasn't pairing with it but sounds like that must have been user error....I will try again!

I can’t get on with my wrist HRM either, always wear the chest strap. I’ve heard they work better if you have the watch on really tight.

I use a Suunto but I've found the wrist HR works ok if I turn the watch round so the bezel is on the inside of the wrist. Still get occasional pace lock but generally it seems sensible.
