Well done.

It sounds like it was not a real chasing start from what you say. e.g. first across the line wins. Was that really the case? It used to be a proper chasing start.

I always used to have 4 or 5 safety pins spare on the sack in case of breakage which was always a danger as I had the most flimsy sack available for the reduced weight. Also had a needle and thread in the first aid kit which did get used once overnight for some running repairs.

Yeah really well done Richard, great result. After my first one I didn't think I'd ever do a longer one either... But the difference between nothing and the first one is far, far greater than stepping up to a longer course. It sounds like you dealt with the conditions well.

Ifor, it's been like that since at least 2015,Phil and I were 40 mins ahead after day 1 but they just split everyone by 3 mins.I think it's to make it a bit more interesting because the teams tend to be pretty spread out and you'd only get 1 or 2 teams in the chasing start of it was proper.
Saying that, the LAMM still did it properly, and I think the Saunders.

They've been making it up as they go along for a few years now. 2015 we had to catch 7 mins but started 6 behind; 2016 I think we had a proper chase; 2018 needed 2mins but started 3 behind. With them now having a 30min 'chase' block I suppose it's best to get as many people in as possible is their thinking, though it makes tactics interesting.

Couple of stout cable grips live in my race pack/bumbag in case of shoe/bag disintegration. Better than gaffer tape ok n shoes as grip still usable
