On this leg I intentionally climbed early in the more open woods past the charcoal platform and reentrant with cliff and two boulder groups to the SSE, to get on the right elevation contour, then it was visible from the approach. I think I even saw the water jugs before the flag for confirmation. Coming from below looked potentially confusing, and from your difficulties I see it was.
Good to see you again, though briefly, and I hope your hamstring problems heals soon.
Somehow with all my other misadventures, #6 went well for me. On compass, saw the fairly large cliff facing back toward me, under it and on contour to the dense rocky ground, a few more steps and it was right in front of me. They should all show up like that!
I saw your straight line to 6 on Route Gadget as well as Charlie’s no-time lost split. I expected to see the flag from “my somewhere” in the rocky ground but it was not to be. Maybe it was more across the hillside. There was a dead tree blocking some of my view. Maybe I didn’t go far enough. There was an extra set of eyes searching on each of my two visits to the vicinity. But the flag proved elusive for me.
It was fun to return to the fold. I hope to make some A meet competition. I’d rather limp a bit if needed. It’s better than not going. And some degree of immersion has rewards but I have to weigh distance to events, too.
Agreed. I would very much like to hit the events this weekend at Harris and Townsend, but it's a long ride by myself, so unlikely to go.
