Hello SMOC! I'm writing on behalf of a friend of mine, Klara Möller, that will come live in South Lyons in the fall as an exchange student from Uppsala Sweden. She wanted to know what orienteering opportunities she might have while she was there and if there were some nearby maps she should try to visit. I showed her the SMOC website, and I hope that she will get a chance to get into the forest.

Other than using the website, are there any suggestions/ recommendations? Is there someone with whom it would be best for me to put her in direct contact?

Thanks for any advice you have!

Mr Wonderful:
That's a great place to be - most of the active maps and events are centered around South Lyon. A significant portion of the board lives in South Lyon. You can ride your bike 15 km or so and get on five different orienteering maps I think (ILRA, Bishop (embargoed), Chilson, Maybury, Huron Meadows (has permanent course).

We do streamer courses outside of the season - join up
https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/smoc... for map distribution. The more interest, the more get set up.

She is welcome to reach out to me (email in profile), and when I respond I'll cc some other handy folks (igor (streamer course setter extraordinaire) and work4justice (trains actively, lives in South Lyon), and the Simpsons (host a lot, travel to meets, also live in South Lyon)). The rest of the maps are within a 45 minute drive, and we can probably get some carpools going.

We are not terribly far from OCIN (4-5 hours) or dontgetlost (4-5 hours), and often carpool to regional events.

Wow, excellent news and a very helpful response! Thanks Mr Wonderful and I'll make sure that Klara finds her way towards getting in touch with you guys!

Also a warm welcome to come orienteer with us in Uppsala if you're ever in the area!
