Mark Two:
So are you planning on doing the race there on the 30th?

I don't think Wrekin do many events there but there is some good O to be had. The south face of Moel-y-Golfa was all white with various crags and boulders. You can do some interesting longer route choice legs in the main wood as well.

I was referring to the fell race.

Are you? Maybe that race. There is a summer series race not long after which is 2/3rds the route. This was supposed to be a recce for that but the route isn't easy to find on the internet so it ended up just being a run.

Luckily however just as I was driving off I spied the organiser heading to the pub so I flagged him down and he talked me through it. A minute earlier or later and I'd have missed him.

Yep the woods in-between looked fun for orienteering but getting brambley at the southwest end. Yep that bit was still white. The bit I really want to explore is the north side of Rodney's Pillar - wild-looking forest and crags on a steep slope.

I don't think that north slope got mapped properly. When there was a national event there everyone went up through it to the start somehow. The shortest course had about 15m climb but lost well over 200m that you had climbed to the start. M21E was not so nice something like 700m climb in 11 or 12k
