It's back up and running this year, starting with our recollection of Jukola!usajuniororienteering.wordpress.com
The schedule is still from last year but I will update it tonight.
Nice post. I couldn't tell: was it dusty at all at jukola?
When you can't tell if it's dust or fog, things are getting messy
So dusty. Weird. There was a haze over everything after the mass start. I've never seen Finland like that.
They have not had any proper rain for 7 weeks. Big danger of fires so lots of precautions around the Jukola site and a general open fire ban in place.
Prior to the start of the Venla Relay, there was a water truck spraying down the start chute after the turn off the old runway bed - the women were warming up along the runway, so the truck couldn't get to that part.
At the start the camera car just in front of the lead row kicked up a cloud of dust into their faces, and with all of the runners adding to the dust cloud the back rows were in this brown haze for the first 4-500 meters.
Organizers took note, so the whole runway was wet down prior to the start of the Jukola, which helped. I was about 2/3 back in the start grid, and while there was a bit of dust, it was less of a distraction than the loose round rocks underfoot and the faster runners from behind darting in and out.
Out on the course, I was getting reflections off the dust in the air in many places. One of the TV controls was in a large depression in an open area - could see the dust billowing up from over a hundred meters away.
Took a sub-optimal route down through a shaded rock-strewn depression - all the rocks were moss covered, which just disintegrated into dust under my feet - not the moist soft cushion I was expecting.
GAAAAAAAAAH! Like a zombie that just doesn't know how to call it quits, the blog is back from the dead again
this summer for the NAOC festivities. When will we ever lay down our laptops and stop twirling our words of magic, you ask? Never!!https://usajuniororienteering.wordpress.com/2018/0...
It's a shortie, but we're just hyping you up for the real deal that's coming. Americans have favoritism but what are you gonna do about it.
You might have favoritism but at least you spelled it correctly in the blog ;)
