So I've bought all the bits to refurbish the old bus. New cranks, cables, chain, cassette and derailleur. All of which means - it's going to be off the road for at least six months before I give up and take it to the shop in bits.

Well I like to try. It'll inevitably end in disaster, but I have a masochistic streak. Young Mr Longhurst might get a call and promise of much beer if he can come over and help me unfankle the mess I've got myself into, but I daresay that I should try first. Apologies in advance for the swearing from three doors away. Although, it won't be for a while, because I've just noticed that one of the things I've ordered is shipping from b!@@dy China and won't get here for a month FFS
