I picked up the 11 furthest-west checkpoints, which included those in the burned area. At one of them (the watering hole one), only 3 teams signed in, and one of them wrote "YOU FOUND THE IMPOSSIBLE!".
On my way to another one, I came across a man laying down on an old burned log. This kinda freaked me out, because I was not expecting to see someone else out there, let alone someone not moving. Turns out, there was a truck parked maybe 50-100m away on the nearest road, but to get to where he was from there, he would have needed to cross a stream and bashed through some medium green (to get to a spot without a view or anything really pleasant about it).
Not in the burned area, but I also came across a paw print of a black bear!
