As many of you know, the European Orienteering Championships, which are also Round 1 of the 2018 World Cup*, begin in Ticino Switzerland today with the sprint qualifier.

Team USA is represented by Giacomo Barbone, Morten Jorgensen, and Anton Salmenkyla. Anton had the best result in the sprint qualifier, finished 29th, just over a minute from qualifying for the finals.

Live Viewing through IOF, complete with video, commentary, and GPS tracking (20 Euros for the week): https://liveorienteering.com/#/event?id=5147

Go Team USA and other APers who are racing!

* The World Cup winners in 2018 will be celebrated after 11 competitions in four countries. The Cup starts at European Championships in Switzerland, continuing at the World Orienteering Championships in Latvia, followed by 2 competitions in Norway and ends with the final competitions in Czech Republic 4-7 October. After competition 11 the sum of the best 8 scores out of the first 9 competitions plus the scores from competitions 10 and 11 defines the World Cup winner 2018, the best orienteer for the season! Reigning Champs are Tove Alexandersson (SWE) and Matthias Kyburz (SUI).

is anyone else having trouble with the IOF Live coverage? The GPS tracking is working, but not the video coverage.

This seems to happen every single year on the first race.

Yes, a very disappointing day for the Swedish men. A couple of big mistakes (3-5 min) for a few of them + one DNF (Albin) and one DNS? (Gustav).
I havenĀ“t heard what happened yet and if there is more injury/sickness in the team since already two of the original runners had to step back due to sickness...

Great run by Anton!

Fredric Portin made it to the final despite being 25th. Apparently problem with finding something to punch with at one of the controls ctrol.
