Discussion: Best orienteering promo/intro video?

Anna:
Does anyone know of a good promo/intro video about orienteering? I have to make my profile for my roller derby team, and I'm looking for a good video to link to for the "past athletic experience" section, something that's quick, conveys what it looks like to orienteer (maybe that there's a map involved), but isn't super talk-y. Maybe like a promo video or even video (in English) of the start of one of the big relays?

Don't know if these are promo videos, but there are several links posted on an AP discussion item from last spring. See if one of them would work.

This isn't a video and it isn't the best but it may be helpful for what you need.

This one is slightly more focused in its approach to explaining the sport. It is brand new. https://www.slideshare.net/gordhun/the-anatomy-of-...

Both the above are highly unusual among videos in showing reality. We don't always unerringly home in on the controls.

The latter is an unusually nice ad too. Made me hungry.

This isn't really intro, but I love the combination of interesting terrain, map with GPS, and an amazing orienteer (Tove, in Spain) actually orienteering.

I also use this one, for the first couple of minutes. Clear explanation, and cute. My middle school kids appreciate that it was made by an 11 year old. I appreciate that it covers the basics clearly.

And if you want to show the international level, I like the intro from :40 to 2:20 of this:

It's a straightforward explanation, with WOC clips, and a few map clips. And it shows the competitive aspect of the sport. I'm going to show all 3 today, as there is snow on the ground (again).

If it's for something related to Roller Derby, than you should have that picture of a pile of people jostling to punch at one of the Jukola (or Venla?), first controls. I can't seem to find it myself but maybe others will help.

There are a bunch of youtube orienteering videos at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwAHanPobhM.... Some are short and some are long.

I hope those Swartz kids are destined to make it as big as the Hubmanns on the future world orienteering stage - just so we can all enjoy digging up that video again
