Just wait, he may get his medal a few years from now. 1st in classic 50k last year and now 4th in 50k skate - Harvey is current 50k king.

He announced this was his last Olympics.

Maybe he will get silver if a Beckie Scott situation happens again.

I still feel that Beckie Scott wasn't give the full glory she deserved because of the Russian dopers.

Russia keeps doing this and it needs to stop.

Agreed - bet he gets a medal eventually.

So, I guess you won’t be watching the Germany/OAR gold medal game tonight?

I think this quote from Harvey sums it up:

“You want to believe in the new generation of Russians, so you’ve got to give them the benefit of the doubt, for sure,” Harvey said. “It’s so hard to be fourth with two Russians in front. I do believe these younger guys are doing it clean, but with everything we’ve seen … in the back of your mind there’s a bit of doubt.”

A few skiers from the Okanagan are taking bets on how many years until Harvey gets a medal...

A friend's Facebook post:
"WADA issued Olympic bans and doping charges against 28 Russian athletes, including Legkov and Kriukov, prior to the games. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over turned the ruling despite incontrovertible evidence.

Skiers, Alexander Bolshunov, Andrey Larkov, Alexei Chervotkin, Denis Spitsov and Natalia Nepryaeva have improved remarkably since working with their coach, Borodavko for two years ago. Spitsov hadn't even competed in a World Cup race until December but now has two Olympic silver medals and a bronze.

The Russian xc ski coach (Borodavko) was suspended for two years in 2010 after the being charged in doping cases. He worked with the 2006 Olympic gold medalist Evgeny Dementiev, who was banned for two years in 2009 after testing positive for the banned blood-booster EPO."

It’s a fuckin’ joke. Ban Russia in all sports for a decade and maybe they will get the message.

They even doped for curling so are their orienteers clean?

Justin had a good line late in the race when Larkov gapped Harvey on a hill. something like “I don’t know where he is getting that burst from”

umm yeah we do.

I'm not sure that I'm a fan of banning entire countries because it punishes clean athletes just as much as those who are dirty - so there is no point in being clean anyways.

That said, I am definitely a fan of way stricter doping regulation. If you dope, you get a lifetime ban. Plain and simple. If you can prove that it was accidental (e.g. maybe Johaug) that ban can be reduced to 2 years minimum. None of this banning Sundby for 2 months in the summer business. With regards to coaches, any coach who is implicated in any way with doping should be banned from working with athletes. Period.

Here is a quote from Martin Fourcade that I find reasonable (I think it's about 4 months old now):
“My position on doping and on Russians who have cheated is clear, but my position on Russia is different,” he said, according to the German Press Agency via a translation. “The country is a fan of biathlon, and I think the Russian public should not be eternally punished for the actions of some of its officials and athletes.”

Have you guys watched Icarus on Netflix?

I think there were a lot of Norwegians feeling conflicted this morning - they didn't really want to support the Russians in the ice hockey final, but needed the Germans to lose to have a chance of leading the medal tally themselves.

Icarus is such a good movie!

Icarus is well done and grew my distrust of Russia in ALL sports. My distrust was already high.

The scene where Beckie Scott finds out the details is incredible.

To be awarded the silver then gold months after the world is watching is so unfair.

Icarus need to be watched with two other movies " Stop at nothing" and "9.79" to understand the true scope of doping in modern sports. It is an uphill battle for clean athletes, since the list of performance enhancing drugs and methods are growing exponentially, and wada does not have the resources to keep up with that. what do you do with guys like Tyson Gay - current world champion with 2 prior steroids convictions and disqualifications? Send him to Russia? ;)
