I'm vaguely aware that things are a bit rough for you (and Roger) but hope there is never a day which isn't improved by Peppering.

We had friends to visit a week ago whose little kids were scared of dogs, and at first when they saw the Meatloaf they stood on the front steps and howled and wouldn't come inside. So we put the world's most inoffensive and loveable corgi-cross in the back garden. Later, when the kids went outside to do orienteering around the garden, we brought him inside - and there he sneakily stayed as desensitisation therapy! By the end of the day, he was asleep on the floor and they were tiptoeing warily around him...
