Hi All,
I am excited to announce that the 2018 applications for the national junior program are up on the OUSA website and ready to be filled out at this link: https://orienteeringusa.org/us-teams/junior/junior...

We are excited to have Greg Ahlswede as the junior development coach and are hoping to fill out the development team. Our goal is at least 20 JDT and 15-20 JNT. We would like to see all regions represented in the national junior program so please put the word out. Greg will be working specifically with junior development athletes and we will be working together with the JNT. To learn more please reference the link.

This year we have broken up the application to make it easier and more straight forward. We have also put all the application content that describes the process on the web site page linked above. Please make sure to read through this content thoroughly. There is a general application for the national junior program and a secondary application which should be filled out if your applying for the JNT or interested in making the JNT in the near future. The deadline for JNT applications is Dec 15 2017. We decided to try a year round application for JDT however we encourage juniors to sign up by the 15th so you can get started right away and participate for the full year.

Our motto this year is "it starts at home." Its been the goal since the beginning to develop good orienteering in the US. We have the terrain, we have the knowledge and it comes down to doing it. So the motto has two meanings 1. its starts with ourselves, meaning each one of us has to do the work. 2. it starts in the US. As a national community we have to change our focus towards development of sustainable community including regular training's, youth and junior support and development, and above all keeping it fun! Greg and I will be reaching out to clubs asking about use of OCAD files for juniors to design training in their local areas. Our goal is that every junior has a map to train on. To get better they need to do the work and they need your support. Coming back to the motto we hope that it will also inspire everyone to start at home and do what you can to get orienteering out there. Go USA!!

Really glad to see a simplified application process and a clearer explanation of what JDT is about.
