A mate of mine is doing a qualifying ride this weekend for next year's Indy Pac wheel race. He is hoping to do 960km with 3000m climb. He left home at 3.40am this morning and is passing quinnup righ now. You can track him here.

Wow - that is some ride already!
Should be in Manjimup before 10pm tonight and hopefully home tomorrow night.
IndiPac is cancelled for 2018, what a shame.
Why did they cancel it??? I was looking forward to This!
I went to the Supermarket on Onslow Rd this morning and there were two Japanese guys with loaded touring bikes. I asked them where they were heading and they said the were riding to Brisbane - 52 days in their budget!
I said "enjoy the ride" with a smile as I headed home!
Indipac is on but just not a "race" run by a race organiser. People are still lining up on the 17th of March and riding (racing) across. i think 30 people are still confirmed. Will post the mapprogress web link closer to date.
rumour has it was due to the insurer offering to pay out the incident from last year and has refused to insure this years now that the coroners inquest is about to start. Political pressure?

A significant number of entries still continue to race on Saturday even though the event was officially cancelled. The race commences from South Mole at 6.22am this Saturday morning. From memory there are at least 4 local entries with Brad Bootsma (ex Dockers player), Phil McCorriston, Damien Van Loom and Callum Henderson (Ex NZ Cyclist)
Not sure if it is the same guy, but I think Damian Van Loon finished second or third in M15A at the WA champs at Kenine Hill in 1987. I started 6 minutes after him on Day 2 and we finished together.
Wow. Good memory there. I know where I came at Kenine Hill (M10) but I couldn't tell you anyone else (other than knowing my brother was competing).
You're not a real orienteer unless you can recount off the top of your head all your events & locations, finishing positions, opponents (and their finishing positions) and route choice errors you've made on every course spanning your entire lifetime.
Setting a good pace this morning with a tailwind behind. The guys were doing 50km/hr plus heading down south street past the uni this morning.
Impressive that the leader has done over 1,100km as at midday Monday in two and half days and is near Cocklebiddy and the back marker is only just past Southern Cross!
Yes and the leaders are pretty much on par with what Kristoff and Mike had covered from last year.
Abdullah must have slimmed down he was built more like a track cyclist two years ago.
Tough conditions out there today.
