Everything is indeed looking pretty bleak right now. The one constant is some form of physical activity, so I'm glad that you're still doing that.

FWIW, of all places in the US for a liberal scientist to hide out in the next four years (if you're ok with the head-under-rock approach), Boston isn't a bad choice. We've got our share of idiots, of course, but it's a smaller share than some other cities and states.

Not really okay with the head under a rock approach. Not really sure what else to do. Probably going to leave, because every piece of news I hear from him makes me more physically sick.

I for one would rather have you here with us.

It would not help to have good people leaving at a time like this!

I'm an immigrant, if they massively decrease the H1B program I may not have a choice.

It feels like you haven't been super-happy in New Haven for a while now, and a change of scenery - either within the US or outside - might be just what you need.

Becks:
We were pretty much all set on Boston. New Haven is miserable alone. I'm done with making friends that move on again within 18 months. Now there is currently no plan.

Y'know, I thoroughly recommend England.

If you ignore the government and their human rights abuses, Australia ain't bad. Their cuts to science funding probably don't help much either.

Germany is just about the only place now that has decent funding and something resembling a sensible government. Which is why all this has thrown everything into disarray - not just location but life plans.

I'm just completely lost.

Do I know anyone other than Barb and Dave that work in Biotech in Cambridge?

Also I want to move closer to home, not further.

Ireland! You can join Repeal the 8th! In biotech you might even get some funding.

Do the thing that makes you happy, Becks, whatever it is.

Ha ha! At this point, I wish I knew!

I did some yoga and thought of the first things that came to mind that make me happy:

- Rob
- Running through sunny forests
- Devil cats
_ Talking through experiments with Shannon and Rashaun then watching them kick butt and produce really exciting data

Yep, no hope here -- Trump arrived too late to help it.
Russia is the best, and the last, hope.
Making bacteriological weapon for Dr Evil is better then
just survival in America

I'm happy to see devil cats on that list.

We're a bit lost over here, too. We could build an island in the Atlantic and start a commune of orienteering scientists and engineers.

Becks:
A pleasure as always, yurets.

Cristina - don't know what to say. Stay in Norway?
Dec 1, 2016 12:50 PM #
Cristina:
What, you're not interested in the island commune?
Dec 1, 2016 2:44 PM #
BorisGr:
As long as the island commune has good access to skiing, we are in.

Seriously, can we all just move to the same place and make it awesome?

I nominate California.

I'm a bit lost too. Feel like I just want to go home, but don't even know where home is. Would love to be somewhere with you all.
