Ocad Map Making Software Training-Full Day Session

Looking for a productive way to spend one of the off days between the US Orienteering Championships (just a few miles away) and the North American Orienteering Championships
I have just made arrangements for facility to present a full day comprehensive, hands-on training session using the Ocad mapmaking software. The facility, Muscoot Farm, has a classroom with Wi-Fi so we can set up computers and access data via Wi-Fi. It has both a campus like farm and area and forest environments for fieldwork. The site has also been mapped for orienteering by Orienteering Unlimited and Geof Connor of HVO.
Details will be made available by this Friday.
Program will be ideal for all levels of users -beginners through experienced users
You do not have to be an Ocad owner or even have a computer with you to participate in the session.
Program will be presented by Ed Hicks of Orienteering Unlimited who is Ocad’s North American support and sales person since the early 1990s when the software was first initiated.
This will also be an ideal opportunity to learning the software and field work techniques (including using a tablet computer with GPS).

Cost: $95
Program is for all levels of users including beginners
This will be a step-by-step hands-on workshop covering a wide range of topics. Below is a brief synopsis of topics planned to covered. Requests for additional topics are welcomed.
Non Ocad owners can use you can use the 21 day FREE Trial version. Some loaner laptop/tablet computers will be available. Wi-Fi is available for accessing data and various websites.
Topics:
• Importing data for making a map- (orthophotos, LiDAR and GIS data)
• Ocad preferences and settings
• Georeferencing maps (coordinate systems, datums and declination).
• Working with Background images (maps, aerials, etc.)
• Working with LiDAR (contours, DSM’, DTM’S and point clouds)
• Ocad’s Interface
• Ocad color table
• Ocad Symbols
• Map drawing tools
• Printing and Exporting complete or partial maps
• Creating Field worksheets Incorporating fieldwork into the map.
• Setting up and using a tablet computer with GPS interface
• Fieldwork session - manual or digital
• Finalizing a map (logos, legends, scale bar, images, text, etc.)
• Layout Module
• Useful Tips and Tricks from 20 years of using Ocad
• Other useful software
• Handouts: 28 page support document for the material presented and additional related documents
• Ocad’s resources (Wiki, tutorials, blog)
• Many other topics can be included by request

Looks like a great class - wish I could make it. Let me know if you ever want to run it in Boston. I can likely find space at MIT.

As an aside, workshops in Open Orienteering Mapper may also be useful, as it seems to have a good feature set, is available on multiple platforms, and is free (saving clubs from tracking licenses).
