Those who have been keeping a close eye on things will know that there has been some big growth in orienteering in Florida. We (I spend my winters there) have doubled the number of clubs with possibly another one on the way. We have greatly increased the number of events and most excitedly there has been tremendous growth among the JROTC teams in the state. Over 1000 students from close to 40 schools participated at least once in the last year.
Two of the best student orienteers are Venice High School students Todd and Isabella Park. For 2015-16 Todd is the top ranked Male Advanced Orienteer and Isabella who was in her freshman year won the Female Intermediate ranking title.
They will be 'upping their game' by participating at the NAOC in New Hampshire. I'm anxious to see how they do in this unfamiliar type of terrain and if they attract attention from the National Team scouts.
To help cover their costs their mother Suzanne who is also a Suncoast Orienteering member has set up a GoFundMe page at
https://www.gofundme.com/2anrqna4 . A little bit of support from Attack Point members would be greatly appreciated.
