When the X-Talon 212's first came out, the color scheme was par for the course, yellow and black.

And then they perfectly matched CSU colors, which of course, was lame. But they are good shoes, so I bought them, begrudgingly.

And then they split into Standard and Precision fits, with the Standards being neon, the Women's Precision being like a neon BAOC, and the Men's Precision being like an OKansas, only they assumed that we must have meant dark red, because who would use pink as a team color?

But now, the new color for the X-Talon 212 will make Cascaders rejoice! Inov-8 also introduced the X-Talon 225, also in Cascade colors. It's slightly heavier, but with less cushioning, apparently. This is essentially the non-spike twin of the new Arctictalon.

So, according to the shoe designer guy, the X-Talon 225 is actually like a replacement for the X-Talon 190. He used the words "stripped back" about a gazillion times. I gather the uppers will be a bit more resilient than the previous X-Talon 190 uppers, which shredded quite nicely off trail. They are boasting water resistant uppers, which is stupid, because I want the water to flow out as quickly as it flows in. I don't have a pair yet, but I'll try to report on them once I do. The part that makes me suspicious is that I like light shoes, and 225 > 190.

It was best when the color scheme matched CSU. Who was it in the jersey?

There's a Dean Sturtevant listed in the results as NEOC, so I'm assuming that's him.

I think the new colors of the X-Talon 200 are back in CSU blue & orange. I also noticed that the new 212's are listed with an MSRP of $100 instead of $120.

I'm getting confused with all of the Inov-8 models now!

Are they make a standard fit with the new model? Cant see any indication that the latest model and color scheme is available in Standard sizes

It looks like...

X-talon 190P, 1A, 3mm: gone (replaced by 225P, per Alex)

X-talon 200S, 1A, 3mm: still here (now in CSU colors)

X-talon 212P, 2A, 6mm: still here, surprisingly (now in CascadeOC colors)
X-talon 212S, 2A, 6mm: gone, I think

X-talon 225P, 1A, 4mm: new
X-claw 275S, 2A, 8mm: new

Inov-8 has the arrow cushioning system, from 0-3 (the "1A" above means 1 arrow). It used to be that each arrow was also 3mm of heel-toe drop. But now it looks like each arrow is 4mm of drop.

If you're looking for an X-talon with a standard fit, I guess you either go with the 200 or the X-claw 275.

They're changing the arrows to be 4mm instead of 3mm. So now a two-arrow shoe is 8mm of drop. Except the X-Talon, which they're keeping the same, probably because it keeps winning awards.

The X-Claw feels very different than the X-Talon. If you like the X-Talon for its flexibility, don't get the X-Claw. They've also changed the lug shape on the X-Claw, to more triangular, like the mud-claw, if you're familiar with those. This is good if there's mud, but not as good on rock.
