Is anyone from the greater Boston area interested in carpooling to the Hudson Highlander, next weekend? I intend to drive down early Sunday morning (crack of dawn early, just like for a triathlon, I tell myself). I will be driving my sporty two-seater, so I can accommodate 1 other person.

Contact me at sam.levitin@intel.com if interested.

Does anybody know if there is something happening on Saturday? If not, I would like to get out on a un-embargoed Harriman map for about an hour of training.

genesis 12 hour adventure race takes place at Anthony wayne recreation area in harrimanthe day before. You could always volunteer to pick up controls when it is over. not sure about embargoed maps though.

Embargoed maps? The Highlander info doesn't say anything about embargoed maps as far as I can see. And it's hard to envision how anyone could gain any sort of "unfair" advantage by going for a training run (or doing an adventure race) in Harriman, when you're talking about an event that's as strung-out as the Highlander. You could easily spend a week hiking out there, and it wouldn't make any difference. Just my opinion, of course. But I wouldn't worry about it. I can't imagine Bennett disqualifying you.

The only way to be disqualified from the Highlander is to really piss off the event organizer - something not easily accomplished.

Tom, I am the course setter for the orienteering section of the Genesis. It is not a map used for the Highlander (I know because I know) . But the map is secret for the Genesis runners. You can contact me at my e-mail piutepro@aol.com and I can give you details, length, location a.s.o. It is in Harriman, not far from the Highlander.
The course is interesting, several legs give real options for map reading and navigating. Part of the course goes with my mantra for adventure race orienteering: Navigate more, run less. Run more, navigate less.
The offer is good for any other Highlander runners who want to have some warm-up (I don't mind if you pick up some controls on the way out, in case your start time it late enough.)
You only have to swear on the sweet pelt of a dried out attack beaver not to tell Joe or any other of these AR runners who are trying to bribe, cajole or trick me into spilling the beans.

J-J, you might not know, but the areas for the Highlander are protected with an invisible Chinese Wall, which automatically ejects you into an orienteering walhalla with an eternal micro-o loop. Don't underestimate the wickedness and practicality of the high-minded Highlander commissioner and his support cohorts.

"It is not a map not used for the Highlander "
does this mean that it IS a map that IS used for the highlander? my guess is it is not silvermine, but maybe pole mountain. doubt it is baileytown.

Wow, I got your brain smoking with this wonderful double negative. Sorry, that was one 'not' too much. I changed it and sent the troll on vacation who added the double negative. Guess it was the Chinese wall kicking in his brain.

It is supposed to say "it is not a map used for the Highlander".

Maybe I should say, it is not not a map not in use for the Highlander."
