Is this like saying, "airbags burned my arms"?

Important detail missing: was your head in the helmet when it cracked?

It's always those simple situations that go wrong, and boom you're on the ground.
Thank goodness you wear a helmet.
Train tracks...very dangerous.

At home here in northern Virginia, the best rail trail has multiple street crossings, and I always unclip about 10' before I reach the intersection, and I almost always put my foot down and check the road before mounting again to cross. I rather bleed momentum than bleed...

Not sure why I though train tracks should be treated any less cautiously. I'll chalk it up to inexperience with train tracks, and now I know. :)

Train tracks are nastier than almost anything made of pavement because they can grab a skinny bike tire. Ditto for some storm drains.

Ahhh, my first hand signal learned during a group ride - train tracks, even worse in the other, often-rainy, WA. One of them eventually got me, too!

Glad you're among the helmet-wearers. I don't understand those who don't.
