PBS Parents (with information on child development, early learning resources) has a great article on the subject Why Children Still Need to Read (and Draw) Maps.

Worth reading. Run_Bosco has a comment with a plug for O-USA and agrees!

I can't seem to get to the Cat in the Hat mapping tool - does it work for other people? Thanks

I got it to work. I think we might stick to graph paper, though - good opportunity to work on distance and scale.

Nice article, thanks for sharing!

What about Edge, Microsoft's replacement for Internet Explorer?

Is there even any difference between the two?

I think this is related in a sense. A total lack of awareness of geography and a sense of one's place in it, in favour of complete faith in a piece of equipment.

And another one. Although this is hard to believe. There must be more to the story.

A few years back some Japanese tourists following a GPS set out across tidal mudflats in the apparent hope of being able to drive from the Brisbane suburbs to Stradbroke Island.

I've been to the place the American in Iceland ended up. It's a nice spot.

Tash once turned right when her GPS told her to even though I told her to turn left.

Bryce relies on technology and didn't look at a map. - silly Bryce. In his defense he was saving his map read skills for the race which clearly he needs every bit of assistance he can get

In our 'digital age" maps should not not be too detailed. This one has the right level of generalization

That map is a useful supplement to US Presidential candidate Donald Trump's speeches.
