In fairness, I suspect most people have never tried to kick a 27-yard field goal, and certainly not one in frigid conditions and with a professional defense trying to stop/crush/block you.

On the other hand, a team whose playoff victories hinge on botched on-side kicks by Brandon Bostick and 27-yard field goal misses is statistically unlikely to do well in the long run. :)

In the same vein though, we should measure our 40-yard dash times to see if we're faster than the finely tuned athletic machine that is Tom Brady. At least during his combine, Vince Wilfork had a faster 40.

Certainly most people have never tried, but I'd posit it's a matter of learning the technique - the feat takes no more strength, dexterity or coordination beyond what a reasonably fit, athletic person possesses. This is of course not to say that the average person off the street would be as consistent as an NFL kicker - just that there are many who could succeed X% of the time when an NFL kicker fails 1% of the time. The craziness of extreme outcomes in high leverage situations.
