Yes, we discussed the matter of two days earlier last night. Given the conditions, I think even with your now tighter requirements for event cancellation, the relay would not have happened in those conditions. The start window is just too long. Speaking of too long, mid thirty temperatures would have encouraged quite a few race withdrawals on the Saturday as well.

I'm thinking that any chances of orienteers being allowed to hold an Aust Champs in the scrub anywhere near Port Lincoln at the beginning of October have just gone up in smoke...this latest fire was a controlled burn in the national park, which was thought to be out but got away when some roots flared up.

So eventually the Oz champs will be held on Queens Birthday weekends?

Instead of doing the school events we spent the week in a house in Lancefield. The controlled burn was started on Wednesday in forest to the NE of Cobaw (WNW of Lancefield. On Thursday it was still burning, but appeared to have stopped when we left Lancefield to go to Ballarat for the sprint on Friday morning. We never actually ventured into the Cobaw forest area, probably the closest we got was returning to Lancefield from Heathcote via the Burke-Wills track. Very lucky for us that we were not there this week.

Neil, I think you'll find the Aus Champs are already held on the Queens Birthday long weekend.

Yes that's right, it's not all about the east coast!

Youse must have a different queen over there. Is she married to a goose like ours is?

No she's married to a Prince.
