Announcing the 2nd running of the Hanes Corn Maze Adventure Run, ably hosted by Dontgetlost Adventure Running.
Cartography nerd expert, Meghan Rance, has crafted a beautiful map that blatantly breaks all the ISSOM rules to bring you a nav experience like no other in Southen Ontario.
Join us on October 2nd in the evening for 2 races, in the light AND dark and prepare to be bamboozled!
Cool, let me know as soon as the web page is up so I can post to Orienteering Ontario!
"...a beautiful map that blatantly breaks all the ISSOM rules"
What!?!! The horror. Steadfast not coming now!
I´m sure that Corn Maze Orienteering has its own mapping standards (ISCMOM).
The only rule that is important to follow is: "There are no rules - do it as you like"
PS. Corn Maze Adventure Running may have their own rules though...
I've been following ISSOM in the 4 years I've been making maps for our corn maze races. Except for the scale (1:1250).
Umm... yes, there is in fact an ISCMOM. I hereby present the document in full:
1. The map must be perfect.
Our criteria was similar.
1. Is it a map of the corn maze?
Lots of fun. Thanks Meghan. The night course in the corn maze yesterday was very likely the first race to have a butterfly loop run through a butterfly. This year's theme for the Hanes Corn Maze was honey. So there were bees and beehives a honeycomb grid and a butterfly thrown in as well.
Nice! I see you opted to use the impassable green for the corn. I decided to use olive green on the corn maze maps I've made, but I thought about the super dark shade.
I experimented with the olive green but decided that I liked the strong contrast between the green and the yellow more. It probably uses a lot of ink but that is why we send it to the print shop :)
