I don't think 'the ALP' and 'democracy' are quite synonymous.
I didn't see that implication in what Blair wrote; so I oppose the motion.
I'm only seconding the motion as written above. There is no reference in the motion to Blair's commentary. If you want to vote against any claim Blair implied the ALP is democratic, you'll have to move an amendment to that effect. Then you can vote against the substantive motion if you get the amendment passed.
Alternatively you could move an amendment to remove the last seven words from the original motion and then vote about Mr Feet's state of mind..
are you all MUMC AGM graduates (from many years ago)????
Blair wrote that he was "stuffing letterboxes in the name of democracy." I alleged that he was stuffing them in the name of the ALP. Any implied advertisement or support of the democratic process was purely incidental. To stuff letterboxes in the name of democracy, he should perhaps also have carried leaflets supporting the Libs, the Greens, the Sun-Ripened Warm Tomato Party, and indeed any other party ever registered. And perhaps some yet-to-be-registered.
I make no representations about my state of mind.
We seem to be more or less free of the more egregiously undemocratic practices in this part of town - such shenanigans as there are generally relate to Banyule City Council (not quite sure why some people are so desperate to be elected to Banyule Council, but there you are). We do our best to send out the Stackers Not Welcome Here message, although whether this will survive the next contested preselection here is highly doubtful.
After the notorious episode a couple of years ago where 497 people joined at a meeting they allegedly attended in George Seitz's office, we were thinking of having a competition ourselves to see how many people we could squash into Jenny Macklin's office at once, but never got around to organising it.
I'm disappointed this thread seems to have ended. I didn't notice the adjournment motion.
