What town or area in France has the most active orienteering scene and the best terrain? My wife would like to spend an extended period in France, and I would like to go someplace that has a lot of good orienteering.

Most of the guys on the French team I believe have chosen St Etienne (close to Lyon) and belong to the local club. That is not 100% guaranteed accurate information, but I'd give it 75% liklihood of being correct. Then my assumption is that since they've chosen to live there, there must be lots of good orienteering in the vicinity
