Discussion: OR running on MAC - no connection to Master Station

The Canmore Nordic Centre has a permanent orienteering course installed that uses SI. Timing is done at the Trail Sports ski/bike shop on site. They use a Mac running Mavericks and run the OR 4.3.2 timing software.

The SI units (including the Master Station) were just updated to the latest firmware. Not sure if that is relevant. The Master Station is set to RDO (Readout) mode"

Now, as we start up the courses after being shut down over the winter, we can't get OR to connect to the Master Station.

I'm not sure if I've forgotten some "trick" that I need to do to make the connection, or if perhaps something has changed in either OR or in the Master Station.

On my computer, in OR the "Com Port" drop down options don't include anything that looks as though it might be what I need to select.

On Trail Sport's computer, in OR the "Com Port" drop down also doesn't have anything likely. But yesterday (before I unplugged the master to test it on my computer) it did have something like "USB xxxxxxx" - and when that was selected the red "Connecting..." text was displayed

Any clues?

We have just had a similar issue. The master would hook up but drop off and crash Ór. Appears to be bad wiring connection where the cable goes through the rubber seal into the box. Can't figure out how to get the cable out of the seal to rewire it. May be your problem. Plug it in and try wiggling the cable.

Another thing you might check is that SI Config is not currently open when you try to use the readout software. If SI config has control of the masterstation then the other program won't be able to find it. Also, I often reinstall the driver if the USB masterstation is not recognized.

Do I need a driver for the Mac? This might be the important step I'm missing ;-(

But there must have been a driver before...
Not having a Mac, I have little idea, but there are some possible hints here:

Have you reprogrammed the controls and master station with the newest version of SI config?

4Mila to the rescue?

I haven't really heard of 4Mila before, but I'm getting interested to find out more about it. On their website are some instructions about installing SportIdent drivers on OSX. I followed those and things seem to be working on my Mac. Next step is to try on Trail Sports' Mac

Thanks for everyone for all the help and suggestions. Sometimes I really love AttackPoint!
