For that I first have to transport myself to...Canada maybe?! Is there heather there? We have a single clump growing in our driveway...

I'm going to die.

Also, you're coming back, aren't you?

Don't worry, not every area is covered in heather, we've got grass (waist deep), bracken (over head height) and brashings - how deep do you want? All ready and waiting for you to come and visit them all......
Seriously the areas are tough but parts are fantastic running, so enjoy what you can and get through the rest.

Of course, wouldn't miss it, what with the chance to orienteer around my old stomping grounds (and my old paper-round route) and the added incentive of WOC! (Plus it's my Ma's 70th just afterwards).

There's a distinct lack of heather here too, I might be able to emulate Nairn beach ok though.

Heather -> You could play in blueberry or ferns, similar almost. Laurel probably too tough, maybe comparable to bracken. Or you could get that soft, squishy resistance by running at the beach, knee deep or so.

Then again just running will be a start.

Think your final sentence is the key there George :)
