Unbelievable.

I think the moose are conspiring against me. I have lived here for almost four years and have never seen a moose in the forest.

Wow, that is a conspiracy for sure! Next time I see one I'll tell him to pay you a visit.

That is really cool. I'm glad it didn't decide to find you threatening.

My first moose encounter was in Alaska, skiing. Nationals were in Anchorage, and the race director told everyone that if a skier encounters a moose on the course, and the moose obstructs their passage, well, that's just tough luck. But he didn't think we'd encounter any moose. Well, one of the training days my teammate Jess and I were whizzing down a hill, and a moose was standing on the side of the trail. Jess was in front, and when she whooshed by, it freaked out the moose, who started gallumphing down the trail, and I was behind it. Luckily, I had the common sense to not try and pass the moose, but to slow down until she had crashed into the forest. It was pretty intense. Apparently the Alaskan moose are hungry and angry in January, so things could have gone badly I suppose.

That's cool that you saw one!

I saw one in Sweden during a race. I definitely lost 3 or 4 minutes because of it since I was so amazed to see the moose that I sort of forgot everything else including where I was going... and I had to change my route so as not to run too close to it. But, it was worth it.

And it was SO huge!

I'm pretty sure if moose had pants, they would have been pooped, but moose was just putting on a brave face.

KPop, even if the moose pays me a visit I may not see him. A couple of months ago we had a moose pass right in front of me on a trail (Melissa was behind me and watched it happen) and I had no idea. I found the prints in the snow but I never heard or saw a thing. I have this image of moose following me around the forest and giggling as they play Cristina-Chicken and see how close they can get without me noticing.

From my knowledge the only thing you should beware of with moose (in Sweden and probably also Norway) - like for most other animals - is the mother/child combo. In this case a cow with calves - which could be an unpleasant encounter. Like most (healthy) animals they otherwise turn around and run the other way just as quickly as you do.

I would like to report that this morning I saw a moose while orienteering. Maybe they are reading your log, Kseniya, and felt sorry for me. Thanks!

WHAT?! I have spent over a month of my life in those woods, sometimes sitting in ditches waiting for athletes to come through controls for HOURS, and I have never ever seen a moose! I was just about to say "no need to worry about the moose...etc etc."

Not fair!
