Now that we finally have permit documents in hand, I can officially announce that HVO's Tourne Park Billygoat warm-up (& local) event is definitely ON.

Courses by US WOC Team Member Kseniya Popova & her O-instructor mom, Nadya. One interesting aspect of this venue is a section of Upper Midwest-like hill/depression terrain, usually not found in the area.

It's just 2-3 miles from I-287, in Boonton, NJ -- ~5 mi north of I-80 & ~25 mi south of I-87 / NY Thruway.

All details can be found on the event webpage (course notes still to come; length, climb, etc. already posted).

To help us be sure we have enough maps for out-of-towners, AP'ers planning to attend are encouraged to indicate their intentions on the AP event page.

Here is some info about the terrain:

Tourne Park terrain is surprisingly varied. Protected by big hills with rocks and cliffs lies a marsh that strange creatures dwell in. You can explore the marsh on your own time as no controls will visit its depths but, just on the outskirts, in the Southern section, you will encounter some interesting features of a different type of terrain. This one is miniature and it floats in a curious fashion with its small hills and depressions, providing a challenge of detailed and nuanced navigation. This section is very fun. Thorny bushes unite these different areas. All around Tourne Park provides an opportunity to seamlessly practice varying O-technique and skills.

About the courses:

Beginner (W+Y) courses will stay on trail mostly. Please exercise caution when crossing the road and parking lots, there may be car traffic.

Advanced courses will visit diverse sections of the park. There are briar bushes dispersed throughout that could generally be avoided. Rocks are prevalent and could present footing difficulties in some areas. Marshy areas will be wet and their boundaries should be as mapped or slightly larger due to recent rains. There will be a water stop.

Warm weather, 70+ degree F, is expected with plenty of sunshine. :)
