I bought the materials to build a mini greenhouse for the sunroom on Sat. Ran the 3km home carrying the 10-foot long pvc pipes, with the fittings stuffed down my shirt. Shouldn't make impulse buys at the home center when out for a run.

No sign of the asparagus seeds yet, but I'm keeping an eye out for them. I bought some (supposedly) disease resistant green pepper and cantaloupe hybrid seeds this weekend. Want to get the 'lopes in early this year rather than after the garlic is done, but where to put them?? Air temp was -16C at the house this morning. Onion plants due to arrive in 3 weeks. Might need a jackhammer to plant them.

I know, I keep looking at the mounds of snow in the garden - things are supposed to be outside within a month! And this cold shows no sign of letting up.

I hope the asparagus seeds make it - the mail system here is needlessly complex and annoying. Hopefully just held up a bit by all the bad weather.

I am thinking of building a squash arch this year and that was supposed to be the fun for the weekend after next - I guess that will have to wait too! Was hoping to put my peas there early on though...hmmm. I guess we will see what the next couple of weeks has to bring! My first set of plantings is almost all germinated and round two should be out in a few days - so at least something is happening!

This winter is particularly cold and snowy. Just like they used to be 30-odd years ago.

Good luck with your garden!
