Discussion: Training Camps in North America

Hi All,
I have complied a list of training camps for the JNT. The primary ones are the camps set specifically by me or the Canadian HPP program. The Secondary camps are other great training camps put on by clubs or Regional coaches. Its great to see a very full schedule. If you can fill in some of the missing dates please do. Hope to see many of you at these camps. Get training!!

Ottawa will be hosting two weekend camps this year, one in the spring, one in the fall. No details available yet but they will be open to all who can regularly complete an orange course.

Thanks Jeff, when you have details send them along I will add them to the list. Always nice to have more camps on the schedule.

National Training Camp 3: Boston MA June 11-14th

Is this the rumored Boston Sprint Camp?

It is! I'm sorry we've been so slow on advertising. We're on the cusp of being able to advertise, just need a couple more pieces to fall into place.

Pretty sure TJOC will be second week of June at Bridgeport (sid richardson scout ranch)

Ottawa's spring training camp will be held in Kingston ON May 29th-31st and is open to all orienteers that can comfortably complete an intermediate (orange) course on a regular basis. There will coaches providing guidance at all training sessions for intermediate through elite level orienteers.

We also plan on hosting a similar training weekend in the fall though we have yet to select dates or locations for it.

The most significant fall training camp in Alberta is scheduled for October 9-11.

Not to be missed! There are not many camps where one can get coaching and advice on how to train from the world champions. There will be plenty of opportunities to race these guys! At the same time this is a camp for everyone. You don't need to be an elite athlete to participate. Youth and non competitive athletes will have easy and intermediate courses available. The camp is designed to create enthusiasm into the sport of orienteering for athletes of all ages and abilities.

TJOC is second weekend in June. GOAT (Georgia) is a week earlier (starts May 31). Both claimed to close applications on April 30, but if they aren't sold out, they might still accept an application...

Is there anything going on in conjunction with the WCOCs in Whitehorse? Or the OUSA meeting and GoldRush meets in Idaho?

National Training Camp 4 will be October 16-18 in Harriman. I am working on the details. I am planning to set training for the whole week before for anyone interested in getting a lot of high quality orienteering in. More info to come.
