Aren't you paid in CHF? So, how is this not good for you? (Unless you're not earning enough to survive on and are living off savings, but surely that can't be the case?)

I know, I'm not complaining. At whatever time it was yesterday morning, I was earning 15% more (in euros) than I am now, which is 15% more than the day before. The university cafeteria now charges about 13 euros for a plate of cafeteria food. I'm trying to train myself to think in chf, but it's hard.

It's a bit mad with this being a border town, presumably rent across the border in France will go up. As will checks on cheese importation.

I got very lucky - I'm in Geneva for work the last week of January, and the funds transfer to me for my expenses allowance while there (paid in CHF) looks to have gone through at something close to the peak of the rate 'spike', meaning a windfall of several hundred dollars when converted to AUD and compared with the rate I'll be paying my bills at, assuming no more violent fluctuations in the next week. (For those who haven't been following closely, the CHF jumped briefly by 30-40% before settling back to a rise of about 15%).

I'm assuming Saturday was a very big day in the shops of Annemasse...

Nice. When do you arrive? Lots of sprints in France next weekend, 2h from Gva. And where are you staying?

I arrive lunchtime Saturday. Didn't know about the sprints in France but had been planning to do something long Sunday anyway (starting to run out of opportunities to get good long runs in before a 45k trail race I'm doing in mid-March, especially after this weekend's abortive attempt).

I'm staying close to WMO, which in turn is fairly close to the UN headquarters. Definitely up for a run or two on a morning/evening during the week if that fits in with you (you're reasonably close to the city centre on the western side, right?).

Avenue du Devin-du-Village 7. Running west along the Rhone ain't bad.

For the long run Sunday, I'd suggest getting a local bus up to Gex or the train to St Cergue (snow, presumably) or, further afield, Villars, Zermatt... There are buses and airport transfers going to Chamonix. Though if you've been here more than me, you may have even better ideas.

Okay, let's stay in touch. If my foot doesn't fix itself, I won't be sprinting at the weekend either.
