Did you get freaked by the stray dogs on the way up San Cristobal.

I have run up there a few times on work trips to Chile and it is a great place to get out of the city, except for the dogs!

Like the behaviour of the traffic, if it's your first stop on the continent it's a culture shock, if it's your last then it seems reasonably sedate.

I'd heard a bit about Chile's vast number of stray dogs, and there were plenty, but most were very docile (with the limited exception of Valparaiso). Chile is rabies-free (except perhaps in the far north) which is at least slightly reassuring. I found the dogs to be more of a nuisance in Argentina (most notably in Bariloche), though even there it was more of the noisy/chasing variety than anything menacing.
